Dear Target

To Whom It May Concern:
I placed an order with you online today and couldn’t help but notice the following question at checkout: Are you age 13 or older (18 or older in the state of Maine)?

What’s that about?
I’m curious. Is it because you don’t trust that anyone under 18 in Maine can afford anything? Is it because Maine is Minnesota’s hockey nemesis? Is that even true? I have no idea.

Is it because people in Maine are generally crazy and cannot be trusted until the age of 18, when you legally have to trust that they can buy stuff? Is it because shipping to Maine is more expensive since delivery services get lost there all the time because no one in that strange annex of Canada has managed to properly post a road sign? Is it because you hate Stephen King’s homeland? Is it because they are living 5 years in the past up there?

What is it? Tell me. I wanna know!
